| Sylvarnes is a filmmaker and photographer whose work has been shown at national and international venues. He was recently nominated for a Rockefeller Renew Media Fellowship. His second feature length film H.C.E. premiered as an official selection at the 5th Tribeca Film Festival. Its experimental nature calls to mind the birth of cinema, carny shows, tableaux photography, and flip books as the film tells a dream of western history. His first feature length film The Cloud Of Unknowing premiered at the inaugural Tribeca Film Festival in 2002 continuing on in festivals throughout Asia and Europe and was released by Possible Films in 2004. His latest works are Landscape After The Battle commissioned by Matador Records for the band Interpol and Siberia for designer Miho Miho. In the fall of 2004 Vox Populi a dance video created with choreographer David Neumann premiered at the Thessaloniki Film Festival in Greece and Dances Camera West in LA. In March of 2005 he performed with artist Thomas Kovachevich at the Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center. Recently he collaborated with artist John Torreano on the video Dancing Man which premiered at the Thessaloniki Film Festival. In 2001 he formed the band Sylvarluxe, initially to create sound and music for his films but expanded to make music in its own right. With Welsh born Katy Lewis sharing vocals Sylvarluxe completed its first record Viva in 2005, released on Skrymir Records. Sylvarluxe's second record is the soundtrack to H.C.E. and was released in April of 2006. Sylvarnes studied at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Berklee College of Music, New York University, and the School of Visual Arts. He has been a guest Lecturer at Harvard University. |
